Mile of Music Festival – August 8 – 11th in Downtown Appleton

Screen Shot 2013-05-22 at 10.55.13 AM

In fostering a more creative community, which builds on our quality of life in Appleton and the Fox Cities, the Mile of Music Festival is an amazing new event that will become an annual draw. Why…? Simply because none of us have enough music in our lives.

Americana and Appleton became acquainted with each other a long time ago, and it didn’t take long for the two to become synonymous. Now it’s time to show the world just how perfectly the two belong together. Set for August 8th through 11th in Downtown Appleton, the Mile of Music Festival will serve up original singer-songwriters, combos and multi-piece bands showcasing Americana music at both its most colorful and its very best – from roots and indie rock to country, gospel, soul, r&b, jazz and folk.

Appleton’s Downtown – an amazing mile of safe, walkable and hospitable experiences – is just the right host for such an epic event…an event where all roads will truly lead to College Avenue. We’re talking about more than 100 singer-songwriters converging on Downtown Appleton to make music, build community and send a soulful message through story and song at more than 30 venues, from the Spatio at Spat’s to the harmonious sanctuary known as the Lawrence Memorial Chapel – oh, and just about everywhere in between. And you know what the best part is? Most events will be FREE.

To make this major undertaking a reality and shape the soul of the Festival, local Appletonians have tapped into perhaps the community’s most soulful musical resource – national recording artist and singer-songwriter Cory Chisel. Cory has signed on as musical curator for the Mile of Music Festival, not to mention headliner, performer and all-around host.

There’s a significant community benefit component, too, as proceeds from the Mile of Music Festival will be split into two funds: 1) A newMile of Music Fund through the Appleton Education Foundation that will specifically fund more music opportunities within the Appleton public schools, and 2) A new Creative Downtown Fund, which will be used to provide seed money for projects that help color our creative economy and build on the creative mojo in Downtown Appleton. So, by supporting the Festival through attendance, donations or volunteering, you are supporting a major initiative that keeps our Downtown strong, vibrant and creative!

Join in on the fun as a sponsor, a volunteer, a vendor – or simply kick back and enjoy the Mile of Music Festival as a fan. Everybody’s welcome!

“Night is Young” featuring T.J. Miller filmed in Downtown Appleton

Pop-rock band Eric Lives Here is proud of downtown Appleton.

So much so that the band recently recorded their debut music video for “Night is Young” in two downtown Appleton locations: Mill Creek and Luna Lounge.

“When it came to filming the music video for “Night is Young,” we wanted to keep it local,” said Eric Lives Here lead singer Mike Thiel. “Appleton has plenty of great venues to record something like this, but we wanted to bring it downtown because it just fit the vibe of the song.”

“Night is Young,” which is an upbeat, party-esque rock song, also debuted on 95.9 KISS FM on July 13, the same day the video was officially released. It is the second single Eric Lives Here has landed on local mainstream radio since June.

The “Night is Young” also received a boost from comedian/actor T.J. Miller (“She’s Out of My League,” “Our Idiot Brother,” “Get Him to the Greek”), who made numerous appearances in the music video. Miller’s portion was filmed at Mill Creek.

“We had a lot of help from friends and fans in filming this video,” said Thiel. “We had to do several different shoots and pack a club full of people (Luna Lounge) to make this thing work and we did it, so kudos to everybody who helped. This is your video, too.”

Eric Lives Here is a five-piece pop-rock band based out of Appleton, Wisconsin.
