Smart Growth America announces Appleton, Wisconsin one of the top ten most compact cities in the nation (small city category). Per the report, people in compact cities:
- have greater upward economic mobility
- spend less on the combined expenses of housing and transportation
- choose to use transit and walk more
- live longer
- have fewer fatal car crashes
- have lower body mass index
