Parade steps off at 2:00 PM, and starts at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Oneida Street, heads west on Wisconsin Avenue, south on State Street, east on College Avenue to Drew Street (by Lawrence University).
This year’s event will highlight the United States Coast Guard. As always the Official Parade Marshal is the United States Flag. Escorting the Flag will be Bear O’Brien (morning show host from WNCY-Y100). The parade’s theme is “Honoring Traditions”. The Honorary Parade Marshal will be a general officer from the United States Coast Guard (name to be announced).
The Appleton American Legion will host a Post Parade Party, which will feature a patriotic concert performed by a military band to be announced. This event will occur at the Appleton American Legion at 3220 West College Avenue in Appleton, WI, starting at 5:00 PM.

Heid Music Marks “Music in Our Schools Month” with Giveaway
School budgets are making headlines and leading newscasts in Wisconsin these days. Reductions are widespread, but some subject areas are more likely to be cut. Nearly a quarter of Wisconsin schools surveyed are cutting back on music programs by eliminating sections and courses or increasing class sizes. Sixty percent of students in those surveyed districts will experience cuts in art, music and physical education, according to the November 2011 Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators budget survey.
Heid Music strongly believes in the benefits of music education. For example, studies show music students tend to get better grades and higher test scores than their peers, participation in music education boosts students’ social lives and improves teamwork skills, and music enhances the process of learning. To support the valuable school music programs in our area, Heid Music’s five Wisconsin locations are honoring Music in Our Schools Month with a major giveaway. Music educators, students and supporters can enter “The Big Six Giveaway” for the chance to win one of six prizes for their schools:
Yamaha Concert Select Silent Violin valued at $1,025
D’Addario prize package of selected accessories valued at $250
Ludwig 5 x 14 Supra Phonic Snare Drum sponsored by Conn-Selmer
Hal Leonard sheet music selected by the school, valued at $200
$100 Heid Music gift card, allowing the school to select the best-suited items
School-selected band, orchestral or choral arrangements from Alfred Music valued at $100
Each user can add an entry by uploading a photo to represent a favorite school music program and leaving a comment about the importance of the program Facebook fans do the voting, and the six schools with the most votes on April 2, 2012, will choose among the prize packages. (Each person is allowed one entry, but multiple people can enter for the same school program.) Additional details and terms are available on the contest page.

Gloves or Mittens? Gloves or Mittens? In a shopping season full of difficult decisions…let us help you find one easy solution…the glitten. For those of you not familiar with this term, it is simply both a glove and a mitten combined in a convenient and oh-so-adorable way to keep your hands warm.
Generally speaking, I, like many others, choose mittens because my fingers get cold when separated in gloves. However, clearly, we all struggle with dilemmas in our everyday life when wearing mittens…getting out car keys, turning the radio station, pumping gas, talking/texting, etc. With a glitten, your fingers can be exposed when needed, but the flaps fold over and cover to keep your hands warm and toasty.
We’ve got lots to choose from at hey daisy…A big shipment of these adorable multi colored glittens (pictured) just arrived this week and they’re already flying out the door. Pick up a pair today for yourself, or that hard-to-buy-for friend or relative you’re dying to cross off your list.
‘Tis the season…it turns out you really can have the best of both worlds.
