The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center and INCLUDE present
it gets better
in the Fox Valley February 15-21

A week of community awareness, conversation, celebration and song featuring members of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles

One of the most challenging issues among today’s LGBT young adults and adolescents is bullying. For one week this February, the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center and INCLUDE will put a spotlight on bullying in the Fox Cities community.

it gets better cover photoit gets better, Feb. 16- 21, is a performing arts response to the difficult issue of bullying led by members of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA).  The weeklong residency will feature two public performances and 10 residency activities including school visits and community conversations that will impact approximately 5,000 students and adults.

“Our mission for the week is to rally the community around the central issue of bullying and promote a welcoming, inclusive and safe Fox Valley community for all regardless of your sexual orientation or gender identity.” said Chad Hershner, co-chair of INCLUDE.

The it gets better project began in 2010 when Dan Savage and his partner Terry Miller were inspired to take action after being moved by too many stories of young lives being cut short as a result of bullying and isolation, especially those students who identified as LGBT.

The GMCLA was established in 1979 to bring an end to homophobia and discrimination of all kinds through the entertainment and education. The choir has been working with students since 2008 with their first residency, the Alive Music Project. The it gets better program combines elements of both projects into one powerful weeklong residency.

“The performing arts gives us a platform to start a discussion that might be too difficult for many youth to start in everyday life,” said Amy Gosz director of programming and community engagement for the Fox Cities P.A.C. “For every student that participates in a residency activity we are encouraging conversation and reinforcing that all people deserve love and respect.”

$23 Million Raised-To-Date Toward Keystone Campaign at the Fox Cities PAC

Fox Cities Performing Arts Center is pleased to announce that $23 million dollars of contributions and pledges has been raised-to-date toward the Keystone Campaign, a $25 million endowment fund to support the arts now and for future generations. The funds raised will provide long-term financial stability to the nonprofit’s long-range business plan.

Screen Shot 2014-05-12 at 1.05.47 PM

“The community’s response to the Keystone Campaign has been remarkable and we are thankful to those that have generously contributed,” said Chairman of the Fox Cities P.A.C. Board of Directors John J. Hogerty II. “I encourage individuals and businesses to invest now as it will make a lasting mark on our wonderful performing arts center’s ability to deliver impactful programs.”

The Keystone Campaign was publicly announced in Nov. 2012. At the time of the announcement $17 million in contributions and pledges had been raised during a quiet, leadership phase. Over the last year and a half the campaign received $6 million from individuals and businesses who made muti-year pledges, cash gifts, legacy gifts or donated to memorialize a loved one who was passionate about the arts.

“The community has always been the star in our production,” said Fox Cities P.A.C. President Susan Stockton. “Their response to the Keystone Campaign has been incredible. We continue to update the Keystone Campaign Donor Wall of Honor as donations are received. Now is the time to step up and support to help us reach our goal.”

The Keystone Campaign Donor Wall of Honor recognizes contributors who have made a tax-deductible gift of $5,000 or more and is located in the Center’s Dress Circle Lobby.

The Keystone Campaign supports the Center’s subsidized mission-based programs by:

·         Providing sufficient cash reserves to weather the volatility of the theater business

·         Generating capital for unanticipated challenges like downturns in the economy

·         Protecting and maintaining the facility by planning for long-term maintenance needs

For more information on the Keystone Campaign, contact the Advancement Department at (920) 730-3782 or visit foxcitiespac.com/support/planned-giving.

Wicked Costume Details Bring Characters to Life at the PAC

WICKED_Set_Model_3

Detailed costumes bring characters to life on stage. Audiences will see this firsthand at the when Wicked returns Feb. 12 through March 2 at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center.  Each stitch, sequin and layer of fabric melds together to bring personality and drama to the Broadway blockbuster. Costume designer Susan Hilferty used the Clock of the Time Dragon — discussed in Gregory Maguire’s book on which the musical is based and reflected in Wicked’s Proscenium set — as inspiration when developing her Tony Award®-winning designs.
